The Odd Couple presented by Stage Left

STAGE LEFT kicks off the 2012 theatrical year with a classic hit comedy – Neil Simon’s THE ODD COUPLE.

Directed by Lisa van Oyen and featuring a stellar cast, The Odd Couple is the story of two friends, Oscar and Felix, one sloppy and the other fastidious.

Oscar Madison (Andrew Smith) and his friends get together at his upper West Side apartment once a week for poker. Felix Ungar (Kevin Blair) has just been given the boot by his wife, and since his suicide attempts were a flop, he finds refuge in the sloppy apartment of his long time friend Oscar, a recently divorced man himself.

Together with their friends Murray the Cop (Neil Clarke), Speed (Dan Carter), Roy (Mark Lloyd) and Vinnie (Frank Cotter), they all try to cope with the trials of marriage and divorce by playing poker, drinking beer, and complaining to each other.

Living with the slovenly, dumpy Oscar is no picnic and living with Felix is like living with a permanent maid! The contrast is going to make for one bumpy ride, with this unusual “marriage” demonstrating that opposites do NOT necessarily attract!

To escape the hum-drum life of being two newly separated bachelors, Oscar introduces Felix to the "Pigeon" sisters, Gwendolyn (Helen Blench) and Cecily (Sandy Nicholson). However, what should have been a cozy evening for four turns into a pity party with enough tears to fill a highball glass! This leads to tempers rising and puts the long-term friendship of Oscar and Felix on the line.

With razor sharp wit and the comedic timing that is the genius of Neil Simon, this wonderful and well known comedy will surely make a hit at Stage Left, as well as be a sure-fire kick off to the 2012 season!

The Odd Couple, by Neil Simon, is a comedy classic that has stood the test of time. Most people know it from the very popular TV series, which starred Tony Randall and Jack Klugman, and the hit film that starred Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon. It actually began its life as a Broadway smash in 1965, starring Walter Matthau and Art Carney.  It has been translated into 15 languages and has had productions in at least that many countries.
